FREEDOM CALL

Freedom Call is not another good band from German, which plays interesting power metal. Freedom Call are becoming slowly one of the best bands in their genre in the whole Europe. Just listen to their new album and you will understand those things i say. Daniel Zimmermann the drummer of the band, told us about the new album of Freedom Call and about Gamma Ray...
Accept my congratulations on “Eternity”! Tell us all the latest news from the band.

D: Well, the Tour in Germany and Spain as a support for Blind Guardian  was very successful for us. Right now we have a little break. In summer we do some festivals in UK, Leipzig. In September we will finish our Live album and we play some headlining shows in France.

Can you tell us any remarkable or funny fact that happened during the recordings of the album?

D: Well, we had lots of fun during the recordings, though it was hard and concentrated work for everybody. We had a nice chemistry and good teamwork.

What do the lyrics talk about? Is “Eternity” a concept album?

D: Eternity is no real concept album. It is chapter three and the final chapter of our little fairytale "Tale of Taragon", were Ramzezh brings the 4 Holy Stones together and gains the power to destroy all evil forever. For details please read the booklets of the albums.

And why did you call the album “Eternity”?

D: The word "Eternity" has a mystic aspect and is a very powerful word. I think that our music is mighty and powerful. Fantasy fairytales are based on mysticism, imagination, dreams, fantasies and creativity. That is, what we want to express and give to the people. Within the lyrics there should be space to interpretate ‘em in the way everybody wants to. The reader should get to a dreamworld with his own imaginations.

Are there any further news from Gamma Ray? Are you composing a new album?

D: At the moment we play a lot of festivals in Europe and Asia. Everybody has some ideas for new songs together. We will work them out in October.

In which band do you feel more yourself and you prefer to play? Is there any chance to quite one band in the future if you don’t have much time to spend in both bands?

D: Thank God it is possible to coordinate two bands, because I don't want to miss any of the two bands.

Who are your favorite drummers and from whom you have been influenced most?

D: Tommy Aldridge, Clive Burr, Scott Travis and Simon Phillips

Are you going to play in any festival during summer? How about coming in Greece?

D: As far as I know there is no invitation for us to go to Greece this year (Interviewers note: The same old story...The promoters...shit!) . As I said above. We do some festivals in summer.

How did you came up with Freedom Call?

D: When we were first searching for the write name, we thought it should be something positive, a name everybody can remind easily. We came up with the name when we were sitting in a bar in Nόrnberg, pretty drunken.

And now we go on with the “Weird Questions”!!!… If your wife were selling your whole album-collection just to buy for her a good and expensive ring how would you react?

D: My wife would never do that.

If Aliens kidnapped you and you were forced to give them 3 albums of Metal music so they could finally discover why that kind of music is so genius, powerful and divine…which ones you would choose to give them? And why?

D: Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden (The record and music I started with. It impressed me much)
Helloween - Keeper of the seven keys I and II to show where our music has originated
Gamma Ray - No world order, Freedom Call - Eternity (To show him what I'm doing)

You're sitting in a time machine, to which time zone would you travel? And would you do?

D: To the Wild West in America last century to support the Indians in their fight against the American emperors

Ok Daniel, I wish you the best for that album. The last words of this interview belong to you.

D: Well, thanks for your support and I hope, that I can come back to Greece soon with the Rays or Freedom Call
